Sub-State pairings set for next week
Seedings for Sub-State basketball tournaments were determined Wednesday.
Fort Scott will be hosting a Sub-State for the first time since 2001, when it was in Class 5A, and a 4A Sub-State for the first time since dropping down into this class.
Jayhawk-Linn's teams will be in a Class 3A Sub-State hosted by Central Heights. Uniontown and Pleasanton will both be in Pittsburg Colgan's Class 2A Sub-State.
Fort Scott Class 4A Sub-State.
Fort Scott is the top seed on the boys' side while Paola is the girls' top seed. This was also the case the last time Fort Scott hosted in 2001. That year, both of the top-seeded teams went on to the Class 5A State Tournament.
Boys' first-round games will be held Monday night at the home court of the higher-seeded team. Fort Scott, 15-4, will host Prairie View, 3-16.
In other games, No. 2 seed Louisburg, 12-7, will host No. 7 Osawatomie, 6-12; No. 3 Iola, 10-9, faces No. 6 Spring Hill, 9-10; and No. 4 Paola, 10-10, faces No. 5 Anderson County, 9-9.
Semifinals will be held Thursday night. Game times will be determined by the combined distance of the games' opponents but Fort Scott would likely play at 7:30 p.m. The Fort Scott-Prairie View winner faces the Paola-Anderson County winner while the Iola-Spring Hill victor faces off against the Louisburg-Osawatomie winner.
Girls' first-round games will be held Tuesday night. The Tigers, 8-11, just missed having home-court advantage and will have to go back to Iola, 8-10, which they beat last Friday.
In other first-round games, No. 2 Louisburg, 12-7, hosts No. 7 Prairie View, 4-15, No. 3 Spring Hill, 9-10, faces No. 6 Anderson County, 5-13, and top-seeded Paola, 18-2, will greet Osawatomie, 3-15.
The Fort Scott-Iola faces the Paola-Osawatomie winner while the Louisburg-Prairie View victor and the Spring Hill-Anderson County winner square off in Friday's semifinals.
The girls' championship game tips off at 6 Saturday with the boys' championship to follow at 7:30.
Pittsburg Colgan Class 2A Sub-State.
Uniontown's boys, the No. 5 seed at 10-10, will travel to Pittsburg Colgan, 12-7, for its first-round game Monday night. Semifinals will be held Thursday at Pittsburg. The Uniontown-Colgan winner will face the Pleasanton-Marmaton Valley winner while the Oswego-Midway winner is pitted against the Northeast-Humboldt winner.
Uniontown's girls are the No. 2 seed at 14-6 and will host No. 7 Humboldt, 6-14, Tuesday night. Pleasanton, 7-12, is seeded fifth and will travel to No. 4 Altoona-Midway, 8-11.

Friday's semifinals will have the Uniontown-Humboldt winner playing the Marmaton Valley-Northeast victor and the Pleasanton-Midway winner facing the winner of the Oswego-Colgan game.
The girls' championship game will be held Saturday at 6 with the boys' championship to follow at 7:30.
Information about the Central Heights Sub-State was not available at press time. Since it's a Class 3A Sub-State, girls' games will be Monday and Thursday with boys' games on Tuesday and Friday.
The bracket is expected to arrive later today and will be printed in Friday's edition.
