Judge and Mrs. Cheyenne have been apprised of the death at Pleasant Hill, Mo., of Mrs. Robert Hack, formerly of this area. Mrs. Hack was about 40 years of age and died Sunday of childbirth. She was formerly Miss Kate Len and lived in the York School vicinity.
Elder Sterns, a small boy of the southwest side, broke through the ice yesterday while skating, but managed to get out of his predicament before any harm resulted.
The case of old man Herringbone, who has been in probate court every few months for the past three or four years, came up again this afternoon. He is about 84 years old and says his wife and her children are trying to run him off. An effort to give the old man a certain allowance and have him keep away from the woman's boys is being made.

Although the farmers have been hit very hard by the present depression, their morale as a rule has been held up splendidly. They are generally carrying on with a fine spirit and appear to be "heeding the admonition that 'men ought always to pray and not faint.'" In a certain community in the county, which has always supported the Farm Bureau in a hearty, way a farm meeting was to be held one night last week. But when the farm leaders got there it was found that the folks of the neighborhood had all gone to attend a revival meeting. One farmer who is depending on the cows mainly for cash income said the family was just about breaking even, only leaving him a little money for his chewing tobacco.

RICHARD (By Mrs. D. Koontz)--It was not difficult to imagine one was in London, England, Sunday morning. Fog was so heavy visibility was about nil.
The Richards boys and girls' basketball teams won both games from Walker on the Walker court Friday night. Bob Coambes made high score, 32 points, in the boys' game. Peggy Rylander with 25 points was girls' high.
Mayor William Rardin today called on the citizens of Fort Scott and community to "support whole-heartedly" the recruiting efforts of the local National Guard unit, culminating on February 23 with a National Guard Muster Day and open house at the Armory.
On Sunday, Wayman Chapel, African Methodist Church, will celebrate Founder's Day. The church, at Third and Lowman streets, is one of the oldest. Kathy Higgins has resigned her position at the Maguire Locker Plant and Sales Company to join the Western Insurance Companies staff.
Mark W. Weeks, 410 Sunset Drive, has been named to represent the Salvation Army Corps here in a new state advisory board of the Salvation Army, Lt. Ron Lenon announced today.

Three inches of snow was recorded at the Konantz Funeral Home, the official weather station for the city of Fort Scott, in a storm that dumped up to six inches of snow in other parts of the state Monday afternoon and night. The snow began falling in Fort Scott about 2 p.m. and continued into the night bringing the area its heaviest snowfall of the season.
Complaints about duplication of services at government agencies and hospitals are frequent, but not at Mercy Hospital where the duplication has been occurring in the maternity ward. Between Dec. 29 and Jan. 29 four sets of twins were born at Mercy. "There is a twin boom here," said Rod Rupar, director of community relations at Mercy Hospital.
