ARTHUR D. IRELAND

Arthur D. "Doe" Ireland, age 91, formerly of Bronson, died Wednesday, February 7, 2007, at Anderson County Hospital Long Term Care Facility in Garnett.
He was born on October 20, 1915 in Whitewater to parents Sidney and Grace Bink Ireland. He graduated from Neal High School in 1935. During his early years he worked at Boeing.
He worked for Missouri Pacific Railroad as a Section Foreman in Bronson and Garnett, retiring after 30 years of service. He then worked in Garnett as a school bus driver, and then custodian at the Longfellow School. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge; raced stock cars from the 1930s to the 1950s; remained a dedicated fan after he stopped racing; enjoyed fishing and woodworking.
He married Bertha Maxine Jones on January 14, 1936 in El Dorado. She preceeded him in death on April 21, 2006. He was also preceeded in dealth by a son-in-law, Larry Weast; three brothers, Tom George, Earl Ireland, and Raymond Ireland; and two sisters, Irene Mariett and Margaret Hamilton.
Survivors include one daughter, Elsie Faye Weast, of Gas; three grandsons, Wesley Cook, Ottawa, Bradley Cook, Iola, and Larry Weast, Laharpe; 9 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 10, 2007 with graveside services at Neal Cemetery with Pastor Tony Thornton officiating.
Mr. Ireland will lie in state after 3 .m. Friday at the funeral home in Garnett. Memorial contributions suggested to the Bourbon County Lodge No. 268 in Bronson or the Anderson County Long Term Care Activity Fund.
