Attempted murder charge filed against local man

A Fort Scott man has been charged with attempted second degree murder and numerous other charges in connection to a domestic-related incident that occurred on Friday.

The Bourbon County Attorney's Office charged Danny M. Fewell, 41, with one felony count of attempted second degree murder, felony aggravated burglary, three counts of aggravated assault, aggravated battery, two counts of criminal threat, misdemeanor endangering a child, battery and criminal damage to property.

The allegations are that at 11:44 p.m. Friday, Fewell broke a door and forced his way into the house at 1601 S. Horton St., where his estranged wife, Christy L. Fewell, lives. The charges allege that a physical confrontation ensued between Fewell and a group of other people inside the house.

Fort Scott Police wouldn't reveal what prompted the alleged fight, but said Fewell, at some point during the brawl, grabbed a knife from inside the home and threatened the people with bodily harm.

Fewell somehow received a cut on the hand with the knife during the fight, police said. He was treated at Mercy Health Center and released, only to be transported by police to the Southeast Kansas Regional Correctional Center at 1:49 a.m. Saturday, where he is currently in custody.

No one else was injured by the knife during the incident, and a police detective is continuing to investigate the incident, police said.

Court documents allege that Fewell intentionally attempted to kill 44-year-old Danny S. Pritchett. Police said, at this point, they don't know how Pritchett is connected to the suspect. The aggravated assault charges stem from allegations that Fewell also assaulted Pritchett, 18-year-old Asenath C. Feely, and Christy Fewell with a knife. Also listed in court documents were two criminal threat charges against Fewell, based on alleged threats against Christy Fewell and Pritchett.

Bourbon County Attorney Terri Johnson also charged Fewell with endangering a 2-year-old boy. Police declined to say how the boy was endangered during the dilemma.
