JOHN WELLS SCHASSAR
John Wells Schassar, age 64, resident of Fort Scott, died Sunday, January 21, 2007 at Mercy Health Center. He was born March 30, 1942, in Lackawanna, New York, the son of George W. Schassar and Mary A. Wells Schassar. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Barry University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and Psychology.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Military, having served with both the U.S. Navy and Air Force. He retired from a career as an air traffic controller for the Federal Aviation Administration. He married Frances L. Parker on June 3, 1995 in Olathe. John was a member of the Grace Baptist Tabernacle, a life member of the Olson-Frary-Burkhart Post No. 1165 V.F.W., American Legion Post No. 153 of Olathe, Vietnam Veterans of America, and Fleet Reserve Post No. 162 of Meterie, Louisiana.
John is survived by his wife, Frances Schassar, of the home; three daughters, Kerri Lea Barrett, Michelle Saxon, and Stephanie Schassar; two step-daughters, Sharon Masingale and Wendy Swearingen; two step-sons, Charles Swearingen and Carl Randall King; a sister, Sylvia A. Graovac, and four grandchildren.
The cremated remains of John Schassar will be placed at the family plot at Oak Grove Cemetery in Fort Scott in a private family service. Military honors and "Taps" will be played at the cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Cheney Witt Chapel.
