Family members gathered at the home of Larry and Goldie Arndt on Christmas Eve to enjoy a soup and sandwich supper, and the opening of gifts.
On Christmas Day all were present for the annual Christmas dinner with Larry and Goldie. Those attending were Goldie and Una Wells, Marshall Beerbower and Stephanie Jessica and Alex of Fort Scott, Chuck, Donna and Tony Weyant and Dale Overcash from Mapleton, David Elbrader and friend, Redfield, Jack and Laura Ripper and Levi, Bronson, along with Jacks mother, Joyce from Pittsburg; Matt Weyant, Brandon, and Regan , Alvin and Mary Beerbower and Melony, Dale and Mindy Carpenter and Dylan and Cheyenne, Josh and Mary Ann Binford and Aiden, Dawn Adams, and Dick Binford and Alex of Uniontown. All enjoyed dinner together and came supper time were ready for leftovers again.
Cassie Fox of Amarillo, Texas, spent a few days after Christmas at the Larry Arndt and returned home for New Years.
Dewanda and Mike Dixon, Louisiana, had planned to come to the Arndt's over Christmas, but uncertain weather made them decide to postpone their visit until Easter.
Mary Beerbower recently took the test to become an EMT, with a group in Topeka. She is currently working with the hospice program.
A baby daughter was born to Sam and Sarah Sackett (formerly of Fort Scott) on Nov. 12, 2006, in Washington D.C. She weighed 6 lbs. and 15 ounces and was named Eliana Grace Stover Sackett. Mr. and Mrs. Phil Stover of Quinter, Kansas are the maternal grandparents. Paternal Grandparents are Jim and Gayle Sackett of Fort Scott, and the Great-Grand Parents are Alice B. Ramsey formerly of Uniontown now living in Fort Scott, and the late Ed L. Ramsey.
Alice Ramsey accompanied her daughter, Gayle Sackett to Washington D.C. on Dec. 13 to make the acquaintance of the new grandchild.
The Pass Time Club met on Dec. 20, with Mrs. Ruth Wilson. The meeting was called to order by the Vice President, Alice Clayton. Ruth Wilson gave the devotions, reding from Luke II, the Christmas Story. Alice Clayton read poetry composed by Minnie Hunziker, a former Club Member, back in 1958, about the Pass Time Club.
Roll Call was answered by telling who you believed your secret pal for 2006 was.
New secret pal names for 2007 were drawn.
Election of Officers for 2007 officers was held, resulting as follows: President Alice Clayton; Anna Rose, Vice-President; Theda Headley was retained as secretary, and read the minutes of the November meeting.
Alice Clayton received the Guess what which was a package of sticky notes. She also won the hostess gift, which was had lotion. The next meeting will be Jan. 17, and will be with Hazel Burt.
Gifts were opened revealing who the secret pal was for 2006, and all enjoyed word games and refreshments of finger foods and beverage was served by the hostess.
Mr. and Mrs. Bud Stotler, Iola, and Mrs. Nellie Beaver, Fort Scott, were guests Christmas day at the home of Mrs. Hazel Burt.
Joe and Becky Brown, rural Augusta, entertained the Geiger family with their annual Christmas party at their home on Dec. 23-24. A soup supper was served Saturday night with four kinds of soup, along with an assortment of holiday treats and Christmas goodies. The group stayed over and enjoyed a holiday breakfast on Sunday morning, followed by the opening of gifts around a lighted Christmas tree. A new custom was began by all appearing in the family room of the home, dressed their robes and night wear. Louise Geiger adapted the old flip-flops (shoes) with tinsel and other Christmas ornaments into house shoes for all to wear with their attire. There were 33 family members present to enjoy this festive occasion.
Dewaine and Beverly Geiger went home with Bob and Louise Geiger to enjoy Christmas Day in Tulsa, Okla. and an evening Christmas dinner at the home of Louise's sister Jerry and Noreen Marsh, Broken Arrow, Okla.
The children's Christmas program was held Dec. 17, at the First Missionary Baptist Church, with drama participants, Cody Tinsley, Veronica Harrison, Brenden Wood Ashley Feagins, Kaitlin Spainhoward, Jessica Harrison, Harlee Tinsley, Kelly and Jana Wilkinson, Marcus Tyler, Catherine Tyler, Butch Tyler, Sissy Tyler, Jane Tyler, Bonnie Tyler, and Mary Tyler, presenting "No Room," directed by Brenda Feagins.
The children's Christmas program included "Happy Birthday Jesus" by the Children's Choir, "Baby Jesus" by Laney Covey, Amy Dillow, Gina Hill, Zoe McClure, and Shelby, Zoi and Gracie Yoho. Ty Covey presented, "Who could imagine a Kind" and the children's choir sang, "One Small Child", "What Can I Give Him", and "We wish you a Merry Christmas". The Nativity participants were Cassidy Fuhrman, Carter Wood, Ty Covey Emily McKarnin, Ashley Vanzant, Dalton Fuhrman, David Bradbury, and Skylar Riley. The production was directed by Linda Noll.
Dec. 17, services at the Methodist church included a pageant and Christmas story directed by Norma Dunn, assisted by Mary Warren, and the youth of the church portraying the nativity.
On Dec. 24, the minister's sermon was, "The Message in Mary's Song" and Christmas carols were used for all of the music. The celebration of Holy Communion was observed. Poinsettias were placed on the altar in memory of former members Nellie Clark, Eileen Perry Mattson, and Herbert Perry, Rosa and Earl Hartman, Kim George, Margaret and Muriel King, Wilma Warren and Shirley Warren.
