Uniontown seniors keep busy with October meetings
The Pastime Club met on Oct. 18, at the senior citizens room at Cottonwood Estates. Theda Headley was the hostess. The meeting was called to order by the Vice-President Alice Clayton. Theda Headley read the minutes of the last meeting. Alice Clayton read articles, "Out South Prank" and "How Fast The Year has Gone." The hostess gift was won by Hazel Burt. The guess what was furnished by Theda Headley and had the group completely baffled as they could not guess what it was, even after several good hints, so names were put on a piece of paper and a drawing was held, awarding the gift to Alice Clayton, and it was address labels. Birthday gifts were received by Irene Stockstill and Ruth Wilson. The hostess served assorted crackers and cheese, along with chocolate cake, and hot tea.
The Uniontown Senior Citizens met Oct. 31, at the community building for their potluck dinner and meeting. President Rita Peterson opened the meeting with prayer, and the dinner was enjoyed. The group reported on 21 sunshine calls. Theda Headley brought the guess what and it was won by Cliff Peterson. Rita Peterson read two articles which she had found in her mothers collection entitled, "Stuff" and "I'm a Senior Citizen." There were 10 members present. Alice Clayton and Theda Headley fixed a plate of food to take to Ruth Steele, who was not feeling good. The meeting was dismissed, and the group enjoyed visiting.
The Geiger families all gathered at the home of their parents for their annual fall hay-rack ride and wiener roast held over on the Marmaton River, on Oct. 21. Several stayed over night, and many came just for the day. On Thursday, Nathan Brown and friend Jessica Wier, and Kevin Brown were supper and overnight guests. They all attend Washburn University in Topeka. Friday morning brought their parents, Becky and Joe Brown from Augusta. On Friday evening Bob and Louise Geiger, Tulsa and Brandi Geiger and McKena and Chance from Owasso arrived. All enjoyed a stand-up breakfast of homemade cinnamon rolls and juice on Saturday morning. Later in the day Justin and Kelly Geiger arrived as did Logan Geiger and Caleb Geiger, Pat and Ken Ramsey, Arron and Lori Ramsey, Connor and Kendall, and Ryan Ramsey and friend Becky, all of Joplin, Mo. The hot dogs were roasted over an open fire and many side dishes were brought. The weather finally won out and canceled the party. Many stayed overnight to return home on Sunday morning.
The Uniontown Methodist Church honored their organist, Alicia Jackson on Sunday, Nov. 5, for the dedication that she had shown as musician, and in all other aspects of the church. She was presented a basket of fall flowers, and a plaque and best wishes by Raymond George, who is chairman of the board. Following church services a covered dish dinner was enjoyed, followed by a meeting of the church board. Virginia Holt, who is now living in her own home again, was also taken a large basket of cut fall flowers as a get well gesture.
