Donald L. "Joe" Schroder, age 75, died at Midland Hospice House on Mondaym, October 30, 2006.

He was born May 7, 1931 to Edith Schroder Tucker. He graduated from Fort Scott High School in 1950. He served in the National Guard from 1951-1953. He attended junior college two years where he won medals for shot put in 1951-52 before winning a scholarship to Pittsburg College. He earned his undergraduate degree and his Master's degree from Pittsburg College.

Mr. Schroder taught school from 1954 to 1992 at various schools with the last 24 years at Washburn Rural High School. He was basketball and track coach at various high schools. He loved to garden and work on cars and small engines.

He married Jean Cox in 1954 and to that marriage three sons were born, Steve, Charles and Tom. They divorced in 1981.

He met Juanita Pitts Proctor at their 31st high school reunion and they married Oct. 24, 1981.

Mr. Schroder was preceded in death by his mother, step-father, grandparents, a grandson and aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita; three sons, Steve, Charles and Tom; three step-children, Connie Aguilera, and her husband, Patrick, Wichita, Shirley Hurd and her husband, Rick, and David Proctor and his wife, Tina, of Fort Scott; a half-brother, Fred Tucker and wife, Judy, Junction City; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; aunt, Alice Estes of Arizona; and nieces and nephews.

He will be greatly missed by family and friends who loved him. Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, on the hill where the angels are, is in charge of funeral arrangements with burial in Clarksburg Cemetery in Fort Scott.

Pallbearers in Topeka will be Bill Scott, Ray Glase, Dick Evans, Brian Jepson, Leo Reo and Randy Steinbock. Honorary pallbearers are ex-students of Auto Mechanics Class WRHS. Pallbearers at Clarksburg Cemetery are Fred Geneva, Doug Hurd, Rick Hurd, David Proctor, Delbert Flutty and Bill Graham. Honorary pallbearers are the Class of 1950.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wed. at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Rd, Topeka, KS 66614. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thurs. at the funeral home. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thurs. at Clarksburg Cemetery, Fort Scott.
