A thank-you to Airport Day volunteers

Friday, October 6, 2006

To the Editor,

Our 9th Annual Airport Day was a grand success. The weather was good, there was a very good crowd and there were numerous static displays, aerobatic performances, and plenty to eat. The day started off with biscuits and gravy provided by the Kiwanis Club. The Fort Scott High School Band, directed by James Fox, the Fort Scott High School Select Ensemble, directed by Pat Harry, the Fort Scott Community College Band, directed by Betty Jo Laflen, provided musical entertainment. Later, lunch was provided by the local Pioneer Kiwanis Club.

This fun Airport Day would not have been possible without the work of many volunteers. We would like to express our thanks and appreciation to the following volunteers who worked many hours to make this Airport Day happen and be such a success: Pat Pence, Chad Rainey, Danny Renfro, Ronnie Kellogg, Barbara Kellogg, Louella Howard, Carol Brown, Eric Spencer, Mike and Kris Embry and their family, the Bourbon County Rural Fire Department, The Hiattville Fire Department, Fuss N' Feathers, Frontenac Hog Chapter of Harley-Davidson, Josh Pence, Diane Clay, Pat Renfro, Patty Harry, James "Red" Stradley, Danny Brown, Bill Waldron, Ralph Davis, Chris Comstock, Dillon Renfro, David Lamb, Trisha Howard, Deidra and Matt Howard, Larry Davenport, James Fox, Ralph Carlson, Jim Gladbach, Mike True, Chris Howard, and Angela West.

We would also like to thank Mary Beth Wester, of the National Historic Site, for providing their color guard, and the cannon for opening ceremonies firing; Pastor Steve MacArthur for prayer; Rotary Barber Shop Ensemble for singing the National Anthem; and Mayor Gary Billionis for his welcome remarks.

Airport Day has become a very nice event for the citizens of Bourbon County and this area. I am sure everyone appreciates the time and effort donated by the folks and groups listed above. We estimated this is the largest crowd we have had through the years.

Thank you.

Bob Marshall
