Hound rodeo takes first at OSU
The Fort Scott Community College men’s rodeo team brought home some more hardware at the Cowboy Stampede Monday at Oklahoma State University.
The FSCC men’s team has finished in first place in all three of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association events it has competed in this season. The Hounds are ranked first in the Central Plains Region with 1,200 points. FSCC’s John Allen is ranked third in saddle bronc riding, and in bareback riding, Fort Scott’s Quintonn Lunsford, Bryce Eck and Dylan George are each ranked in the top three.
The Cowboy Stampede is sanctioned by the NIRA, which includes 11 national regions. FSCC participates in the Central Plains Region, which features 28 colleges and universities from Kansas and Oklahoma, totaling more than 500 regional competitors.
At the Cowboy Stampede, Lunsford finished first (154 score) and Eck (135 score) finished fourth in bareback. FSCC’s Dylan George came out fifth (77 score) in bareback. Blake Steuck finished first (158 score) and Allen came in third (148 score) in saddle bronc. Cable Wareham finished fifth (141 score) and Korben Baker landed in eighth (129 score) in saddle bronc.
In bull riding, FSCC’s Nickolas Heldenbrand finished fourth with a score of 65, and Lucas Lund placed fifth with a score of 28. In team roping, Fort Scott’s Karter Miller and Kobey Miller teamed up to finish third with a score of 18.2. FSCC’s men’s team finished first with 645 total points.
The FSCC rodeo team heads to Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Okla., this weekend.
