Robert Marion Denton
Robert Marion Denton, 95, Topeka, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at Midland Hospice House.
He was born Aug. 4, 1927, in Garland, Kan., the son of Robert and Effie (Thompson) Denton.
He graduated from Fort Scott High School and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
Robert met Juanita Maxine “Tootie” DeLaney while she was at picnic with friends and they married on April 8, 1946, in Fort Scott, Kan. Together they loved to square dance and they traveled all over the United States dancing in almost every state. They were members of the Kansas Square Dance Association and helped promote the 2008 National Square Dance Convention in Wichita. Robert was also a member of Orient Lodge #51 A.F. & A.M. and Local Union #304 IBEW, where he was a member for over 60 years.
Robert work as a communication and control technician at KP&L, later known as Westar Energy, and retired after 39 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Tootie, on Jan. 25, 2017. He was also preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Leland Denton, Elmer Denton, and Larry Denton.
Survivors include his sister-in-law, Brenda Denton; many nieces and nephews; and friends from Arbor Court, Topeka where he and his wife resided for the last 10 years.
Visitation will be 1:30 to 2 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 3, 2023, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m., all at Arbor Court Retirement Community at Topeka, 4200 S.W. Drury Lane, Topeka. Inurnment will take place at 1:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 4, 2023, at Evergreen Cemetery, Fort Scott, Kan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Midland Care, 200 S.W.
