Lady Tigers win third place in season-opening tourney

The Fort Scott Lady Tiger varsity softball team captured third place in a varsity tournament with a 12-11 win in extra innings over the Chanute Lady Blue Comets on a chilly Tuesday night at Don Hewett Field.

After being nipped, 9-8, by the Ottawa Cyclones in the first game of the tournament Tuesday afternoon, the Lady Tigers (1-1) returned to the field for a hard-fought battle with Chanute in a back-and-forth contest. Chanute erased an eight-run deficit in the fifth inning to keep things close.

The Spring Hill Broncos defeated the Cyclones 13-2 prior to the third-place game to win first place in the tournament.
