Murder charges filed, accused makes first court appearance

Bond was set and another hearing was scheduled for the defendant in a double murder case Thursday morning in Bourbon County District Court.

Dawson James Mitchell, 23, faces two counts of premeditated first-degree murder, among other charges, according to the criminal complaint filed Wednesday in Bourbon County District Court. Bourbon County District Judge Mark Ward set Mitchell’s bond at $1 million cash or surety during a first appearance on Thursday.
