Governor focuses on economic development, food tax, housing
Tuesday, December 7, 2021
Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly touched on economic development, a plan to eliminate the state sales tax on food, COVID-19 and other topics during a Thursday interview with the Tribune.
Kelly talked about goals for revitalizing small, rural communities that are facing challenges with dilapidated buildings and attracting people and businesses. The city of Fort Scott’s Eagle Block building on North National Avenue, which deteriorated over the years, was demolished this summer. Mercy Hospital in Fort Scott closed in late 2018, spurring city and county leaders to make efforts to keep health care in the community.
