Mildred ”Millie” Louise Jurgens

Mildred ”Millie” Louise Jurgens, Mound City, Kan., passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2020 at the Olathe Medical Center Hospice House after a short battle with lymphoma. Millie was born to Clara Spurgeon and Charles Harclerode on July 11, 1940 in Bronson, Kan. She grew up in Uniontown, Kan., in the home of her great-grandmother.
Millie was married to Noel Jurgens on Aug. 18, 1958.
She is survived by her husband, Noel; daughters, Marcia and Denise; grandson, Billy Munshaw; sister, Toni Eflin; and extended family and friends.
After several years of farming in Linn County, Millie and Noel moved to Yates Center, Kan., where they ran a welding and machine shop business. Millie attended beauty school during this time and obtained her cosmetology license. The family next moved to the Kansas City area for several years and then to Maryville, Mo. Noel and Millie operated the Maryville Missouri Airport for nearly 20 years. After leaving Maryville, the couple returned to the Linn County, Kan., area, settling in Mound City in 1993.
Millie and Noel were avid square dancers, belonging to clubs in Maryville, St. Joseph and others. She was also a dedicated Girl Scout leader, serving as a troop leader from Brownies to Senior Scouts.
Services will be held at the Mound City Kansas United Methodist Church on Sunday, Nov. 1; lunch/visitation at noon, service at 2 p.m. followed by committal at Pleasanton Kansas Cemetery.
