A Springdale, Ark., man was reportedly killed in a one-vehicle accident Thursday night on U.S. Highway 69 in Fort Scott.
According to a Kansas Highway Patrol crash log, 58-year-old Hugo Herrera Aguilar sustained fatal injuries in the accident, which occurred about 9:30 p.m. on southbound U.S. 69 north of Third Street.
A 1996 Kenworth semi driven by Aguilar was headed south on U.S. 69 when the vehicle struck the median curb, rotated 180 degrees counter-clockwise as it crossed the highway and struck the pedestrian catwalk. The semi came to rest facing north on U.S. 69, the crash log said.
A passenger in the semi, 57-year-old Nori M. Santizo-Alvarez, also of Springdale, Ark., was transported to Via Christi Hospital with a “suspected serious injury,” the crash log said.
The KHP report states Aguilar was not wearing a safety restraint at the time of the accident. Santizo-Alvarez was wearing a safety restraint.
