Tigers advance in state tourney
The No. 1 seeded Fort Scott Tiger varsity baseball team (22-1) has advanced in the KSHSAA Boys Class 4A State Baseball Championship tournament with a 3-1 first-round victory over the No. 8 seeded Kansas City-Piper Pirates (8-12) Thursday at Dean Evans Stadium in Salina.
The Tigers are scheduled to play the No. 4 seeded Buhler High School Crusaders (20-3) at 11 a.m. Friday. Buhler defeated the No. 5 seeded Chanute Blue Comets 9-0 on Thursday.
Other first round games scheduled Thursday were No. 2 seeded Wichita-Trinity Academy (18-1) versus No. 7 seeded Mulvane High School (9-11), and No. 3 seeded Nickerson High School (16-2) versus No. 6 seeded Tonganoxie High School (12-9.)
The winners of those games will advance to play each other in the next round late Friday morning. The winner of that game will play the Fort Scott-Buhler winner in the state baseball championship game later on Friday.
The third-place game is also set to take place Friday. Game start times are set about 25 minutes apart.
