Jimmie Lee Young, age 77, a resident of Palmetto, Fla., peacefully passed on Sept. 1, 2018, surrounded by his family. He was born March 12, 1941, in Fort Scott, Kan., the son of Franklin Dee (FD) and Era Lucile Young. He was the grandson of James (Jim) and Bertha Batten; Leland and Thelma Young.
Jim is survived by his wife Kathy, children, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a sister, LaDonna (Young) and her husband, Ed Cox, of Fort Scott, and Sharron (Taylor) Summerson of Phoenix, Ariz., a cousin whom Jim grew up with.
Jim was raised in Fort Scott and graduated from Pittsburg State University. He married Karen Ann Humphrey from Bronson, Kan., in 1961 until she passed in 1984. He later married Kathy Hall.
Jim enjoyed his work: project control to construction management that included refineries, nuclear power, water proofing, water treatment systems, to drilling salt-cavern gas storage facilities to name a few. Due to the work, Jim and Kathy moved often and got to experience a life of tropical adventures together. He was a master at wood carvings and had a green thumb in the yard.
