Brown’s Columbus State team reaches DII national final

CARY, N.C. — Fort Scott High School 2015 graduate Chase Brown will be playing for an NCAA Division II national championship today as his Columbus State team advanced with a win over Florida Southern on Friday.

Brown, an outfielder who played at Independence Community College in 2016 and 2017, was 0 for 2 but walked 3 times and scored twice in an 11-6 victory. The second-seeded Cougars (47-14) will face fifth-seeded Augustana, S.D. at noon today.

Brown is batting .326 for Columbus State, which is located in Georgia. His average is second on the team. He has also hit 5 home runs this season and driven in 26 runs.

Columbus State began its run through the national tournament with an 8-1 victory over Mercyhurst Sunday. Brown was 1 for 4 but drove in 2 runs.

Tuesday, Brown was 2 for 4 with 3 RBI in the Cougars’ 6-0 win over third-seeded California-San Diego. Earlier on Friday, He was 1 for 3 in a 3-2 loss to Florida Southern (45-10) that forced another game to be played to determine which advanced to the national final.

Augustana (51-8) advanced to the final with a 5-2 win over Southern New Hampshire, a 6-5 victory over Florida Southern and then an 8-2 win over SNHU.
