Squeeze play eliminates Northeast
RIVERTON — Fourth-seeded Cherryvale pushed the game’s only run across the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning here Monday night in the first round of the Riverton Class 3A Regional Baseball Tournament, eliminating the Vikings by a 1-0 score.
Colton Poole executed a suicide squeeze and Cade Addis beat Dalton Reeves’ throw to home plate, allowing the Chargers (10-11) to advance to a Tuesday semifinal versus top-seeded Southeast.
Matt Cashero pitched seven innings of 2-hit ball for the Vikings (9-12), walking 2 and striking out 13 over the first 7 innings. Cherryvale’s Gage Traylor alllowed 4 hits and a walk with 9 strikeouts before he was removed with two out in the top of the ninth after reaching the 105-pitch limit.
Tejay Cleland was 2 for 3 at the plate for Northeast. Cashero and Blake Adleman had the Vikings’ other hits.
