Tiger baseball wins fourth in a row, 6-0
Fort Scott High’s baseball team won its fourth straight game Monday night, shutting out Girard 6-0 at Dave Regan Stadium as Chandler Defebaugh and Ty Gorman combined on a 3-hit shutout.
Defebugh (3-1) allowed 2 walks and struck out 2 over the first 6 innings. Gorman pitched a hitless inning of relief, striking out one.
Fort Scott had 8 hits, scattered around the lineup. Brody Bowles, who was 2 for 3, was the only Tiger with more than one.
Fort Scott is 13-6 going into its season finale Thursday afternoon, when the Tigers will play a single Southeast Kansas League game versus Chanute at the stadium.
Fort Scott scored half of its runs in the bottom of the first inning. Alec Michaud hit a leadoff double and moved to third after tagging up on a fly-ball out. Brady Masters singled home Michaud, then stole second. Matt Campbell drew a walk. The runners executed a double steal and scored on an error on Ivan Witt’s line-drive to center field to make it 3-0.
Gage Wilson scored on Michaud’s sacrifice fly in the second. Gorman did the same on Kieran Houlihan’s sac fly in the fifth. Bowles singled leading off the sixth, stole second and third and scored on a Campbell single to cap the scoring.
Thursday’s game begins at 4:30 p.m. and will be followed by the junior varsity contest. Fort Scott will also host Class 4A-Division I Regionals on May 15.
