Tiger baseball crushes Coffeyville

COFFEYVILLE — Fort Scott High baseball rolled by Coffeyville by scores of 11-0 and 15-2 in a Southeast Kansas League doubleheader here Friday.

The Tigers remained a game behind Pittsburg in the loss column in the league race. The Purple Dragons lead the league at 7-1 (11-4 overall) with four games to go while Fort Scott is 9-2 (11-6 overall) with one game left, a May 10 home game versus Chanute.

Kieran Houlihan (2-1) allowed only one hit in Friday’s opening game, didn’t walk anyone and struck out four batters.

Matt Campbell was 4 for 4 for the Tigers with 2 runs batted in. Ty Gorman and Brody Bowles had 2 hits each. Houlihan and Alec Michaud each drove in 2 runs.

Fort Scott scored 3 in the top of the first inning to take control. Gorman hit a one-out single, then Brady Masters reached base on an error. Campbell drove in Gorman with a single. Houlihan grounded out but drove in Masters. Ivan Witt’s single to center plated Campbell.

Fort Scott also enjoyed a 3-run first inning in game two. Michaud was hit by a pitch while leading off. Gorman doubled him home. Masters bunted for a hit and Gorman went on to score from third on a wild pitch. Houlihan’s one-out single to left scored Masters.

The Tigers added 12 more runs in the top of the fourth.

Masters was 4 for 4 and drove in 4 runs for the Tigers. Campbell had 2 hits and 3 RBI. Houlihan and Bowles had 2 hits each.

Drake LaRoche (2-0) pitched the first 4 innings, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits and striking out 3. Nic Shelton pitched the fifth, striking out one.

Coffeyville lost its 32nd and 33rd consecutive league games dating back to 2015 as the Golden Tornado fell to 0-10, 3-12.

The Tigers played one game at Nevada Tuesday. A summary of that game will be provided in Saturday’s edition. The Tigers also play a single game against Girard at 4:30 p.m. Monday at Dave Regan Stadium.
