Mary Lou Coatsworth
Mary Lou Coatsworth passed away after a brief illness, on April 18, 2018, at the age of 89. Mary was born and raised on a small farm outside Prescott, Kan., where she graduated high school as class valedictorian before moving to Kansas City where she met and married her husband, Robert. They lived in Mexico, Mo., Kansas City, Jonesboro, Ark., and Springfield, Mo. Mary’s working career included Bendix, Imco Container Co. and Marion Laboratories. Her work preceding retirement was as a Veterans Service Officer for Craighead County, Ark. She was proud to serve veterans, helping secure their VA benefits. Mary was an avid bridge player, seamstress and an award-winning needleworker in cross-stitch and needlepoint. Mary is survived by her son, Greg and wife Janet of Seattle, Wash.; her daughter, Donna of Independence, Mo.; and her grandson, Thomas of Richmond, Va. She is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Robert; her father, Ralph Coon; her mother, Edna Mae Coon; her brother, Everett Coon; and her sister, Anne Dille. Family services will be held at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, Mo. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care.
