Tiger softball remains undefeated after battle with Chanute

Fort Scott High’s softball team easily swept Parsons on the road Tuesday but had a battle at Chanute Thursday before finally winning.

Tuesday, the Tigers dominated Parsons in Southeast Kansas League play, 18-0 and 22-0. Thursday in SEK action, Fort Scott held off a Blue Comet rally in the bottom of the seventh to prevail 7-5.

Tuesday: Fort Scott 18-22, Parsons 0-0.

Each game lasted just three innings and the Tigers scored in every one of them. They had an 11-run third in the opener and a 12-run first in the nightcap.

Lane Bohlken had a perfect game. She only faced nine batters in game one but none of them reached base. She struck out 5 batters and got the other 4 on groundouts.

Kenady Poyner and Aubrey Ard each went 2 for 2 at the plate. She, Ard and Mia Bryant each drove in 2 runs while Lexi Milburn had 3 runs batted in.

The Tigers stole 7 bases in the game with Jenny Denton taking 2 of them.

Mia Bryant (2-0) faced just 13 batters in the nightcap, allowing one hit and striking out 5. She was also 2 for 4 at the plate with 3 RBI. Both of her hits were doubles.

Ard and Montana LaRoche each had 3 RBI while Madie Farmer and Kyra Pryor each drove in 2.

Parsons, which hasn’t played since this sweep, fell to 0-4 in the SEK and 0-8 overall.

Thursday: Fort Scott 7, Chanute 5.

The Tigers (5-0, 5-0) took the lead first when Ard doubled in Addy Williams, who was pinch running for Bryant, who led off with a double.

Sami Bradbury singled leading off the third, moved to third on Poyner’s double and scored on a groundout to make it 2-0.

Chanute (3-2, 4-4) scored 3 in the bottom of the third. Each team scored once in the fourth.

In the fifth, Denton’s single to center brought in Bryant and Ard to give the Tigers a 5-4 lead. LaRoche’s seventh-inning double scored Ard and Milburn to make it 7-4.

Chanute got a run with one out in the bottom of the seventh. But Lexi Milburn struck out the last two batters for her second save of the season. She allowed an unearned run on one hit and struck out 2 in 2 1/3 innings.

Bohlken (3-0) allowed 3 earned runs on 3 hits and 4 walks with 2 strikeouts over the first 4 2/3 innings.

Ard was 3 for 4 at the plate while Denton was 2 for 2 with 2 RBI and LaRoche was 2 for 3 with 2 runs batted in.

The Tigers will make up their home tournament on Monday beginning at 4:30 and travel to Independence for an SEK doubleheader on Tuesday.
