Tiger girls finish third, boys sixth in opening meet

ALTAMONT — Fort Scott High School’s girls finished in third place behind Independence and Iola in the season-opening track and field meet at Labette County here Thursday.

The varsity girls scored 56 points and won 10 medals. Indy scored 97 points and Iola finished with 84. The junior varsity girls won 16 medals and six events in easily taking the team title with 116 points, 46 points more than runner-up Independence.

Tiger varsity boys scored 42 points and won eight medals while the JV finished third behind Labette County and Indy and won 13 medals.

Freshman Ella Beth had an outstanding first meet for the Tigers, winning two varsity events and one JV event. She won the varsity 800-meter run with a time of 2:38.5 and the 1,600 in 5:45. She claimed the JV long jump at 15 feet, 10 inches.

Gracie Krokroskia finished second in the varsity 300-meter hurdles in 51.56 and also was fifth in the 200-meter dash in 29.33. Paxsten Eads took second in the 3,200-meter run in 12:23 and was also third in the 1,5600 in 5:57.

Gabriella Clements was fourth in the 800 with a time of 2:44.97 and fifth in the 1,600 in 6:08.50.Macayla McClure finished fourth in the 3,200 in 13:11 while Emma Davis was fifth in 13:25.

There no event winners for the varsity boys. The highest finishes went to the 4-x-400-meter relay team, second in 3:46.72, and Connor Fess, second in the 800 in 2:12.09.

Makyn Wade was third in shot put with an effort of 40’ 9 1/2”. Dalton Colvin was third in the 300-meter hurdles in 44.50. Nick Lawrence was fourth in the 400 meters in 54.39 and the triple jump at 36’ 6 1/2”. Korbyn Reyes was fourth in javelin with a mark of 137’ 4” and fifth in the 200 meters in 24.35.

Other event winners for the girls’ JV were Emily Farrington in the 1,600 in 6:30, Kenzi Hardesty in the 3,200 in 14:06, the 4x800-meter relay team in 11:48, Addi Lyons in triple jump at 28’ 9”, and Gabby Griffin in the 800 in 2:56.83.

Gage Lamb led the JV with both of its event wins. He took the 100-meter dash in 11.59 and the 200 in 24.54.

This is the only time this season the varsity and JV are scheduled to compete on the same day. The next event for the junior varsity is at Pittsburg on Tuesday. The varsity team will compete at Paola on Thursday. Both meets have 3:30 p.m. start times.
