Atchison wins three medals for Northeast

GALENA — Northeast’s Jasper Atchison won three events on the boys’ side of the season-opening Galena Invitational, scoring all but one of the Vikings’ team points.

Northeast tied for ninth on the boys’ side with St. Paul with 21 points each. Viking girls finished 14th with 6 points.

Uniontown also sent athletes here but none were able to earn a medal.

“Our athletes competed well,” Eagle head coachJackie Hall said, “giving us times and distances to start with and work to improve on.”

Atchison was the winner of the 300-meter hurdles, turning in a time of 44.51 seconds. Ebner of Riverton was the runner-up in 45.82.

Atchison finished second to Ebner in the 110-meter hurdles. Ebner clocked in at 17.17 seconds with Atchison at 18.14.

Atchison also finished fifth in the 3,200-meter run in 11:08.01.

Kamryn O’Dell earned the Vikings’ only other medal when he finished sixth in shot put with a mark of 37 feet, 4 inches.

Carlee Beard earned both Viking girls’ medals. She placed fourth in shot put at 32’ 4 1/2” and fifth in discus with an effort of 82’ 11 1/2”.

Northeast will compete at Southeast Tuesday. Uniontown will travel to Oswego the same day.
