Greyhounds rally in regular-season finale
KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Fort Scott Community College’s volleyball team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat Kansas City Kansas 3 sets to 2 here Monday night in the regular-season finale for both teams.
Kansas City won the first two sets of this Jayhawk Conference-Division II match, 25-18, 25-20, before the Greyhounds got things together to take the last three sets, 25-23, 25-20, 15-12.
The Greyhounds finished in sixth place in both the division and the region with a 4-5 record in the KJCCC and a 5-5 mark in the region. They’re 26-9 overall and will face Cowley in the first round of the Region VI-Division II District N Tournament that will be played Saturday at Highland.
Megan Turner, who recently signed to continue playing volleyball at Harding University, had 20 kills and 31 digs for the Greyhounds. Deardin Kelly had 11 kills. Hanna White handed out 29 assists while Annalise Whitcomb dished 26. Katie Gorman also had 31 digs.
Saturday’s tournament begins with Highland (30-11) taking on KCK (13-14) at 10 a.m. The match between Fort Scott and Cowley (35-6) will take place at noon. The championship match will follow.
In District M at Coffeyville Saturday, top-seeded Coffeyville (32-8) will face Labette (14-21) at 11 a.m. with Johnson County (15-16) taking on Neosho County (27-11) at 1 p.m. The championship match there will take place at about 3 p.m.
The winners of each District tournament will advance to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament at Charleston, W. Va., to be held November 16-18.
