Madison wins at Anderson County
GARNETT — Lauren Madison shot an 83 here Monday to win the title at the Anderson County Golf Tournament to conclude regular-season play.
“She faded a bit at the end, but still shot an 83, which won by 2 strokes over the second place finisher,” Fort Scott head coach Ken Klassen said. “There’s still much to work on, but she’s hitting some amazing shots. Her putting from five feet in is virtually automatic. Her tee shots are straight. Her greatest need for improvement is hitting her mid and short irons consistently so as to be on the green in regulation.”
Kaitlyn Hanks also shot a season best, finishing with a score of 116.
“Kaitlyn Hanks played her best golf of the year as well,” Klassen said. “Her year’s average for 18 holes has been at about 140; yesterday she shot 116 with her last nine a very respectable 53.”
The Tigers will play in the Spring Hill Class 4A Regional Monday. Tee time is 8:30 a.m. at Sycamore Ridge Golf Club. Other teams present will include Topeka Hayden, Carbondale-Santa Fe Trail, Meriden-Jefferson West, Bishop Miege, Anderson County and Tonganoxie.
“The regional will be held on a course we’ve never seen or played on before,” Klassen said. “I hope the girls can do well.
