Hole-in-one highlight of Kiwanis Scramble

The results of the First Kiwanis Youth Scholarship Scramble held Saturday at Woodland Hills Golf Course include a hole-in-one scored by Chase Halsey on the seventh hole from 140 yards. The shot was witnessed by Josh Query and Connor Antonetti.  The hole-in-one was on a hole that was part of a Hole-in-One contest, sponsored by Briggs Auto of Fort Scott. Halsey won free round trip airfare for two for making the shot.

A press release provided by Briggs said, “he thought he had overshot the pin and spun off behind the green. When they couldn’t locate the ball someone checked the pin and found it in the hole.

“(Halsey said) it is his first hole-in-one and was excited to win something along with it. Another team of three, Nate Stahl, Kevin Hull and Steve Fricks were playing with them and (also) witnessed the event.

“Fort Scott Kiwanis member John Townsend organized the tournament and told Briggs staff they wanted to increase their support of local youth by raising more funds for scholarships. Briggs supported the event by sponsoring the hole-in-one contest.”

There were 33 players in the tournament. The Fort Scott Kiwanis were able to raise over $1,600 for scholarships to be awarded to local youth.

First Flight results were as follows:

• Query Team finished first with a score of 55 and won $300. The Garrett Team shot 58 in finishing second and won $210.

• In the Skins Game, the Query Team scored a 1 on No. 7 and a 2 on No. 15 while the Garrett Team scored a 2 on 18. The prizes were $60 per hole.

Second Flight results:

• The FSCC Team was the winner with a score of 65 and won $300 while the Hermreck team shot 66 and won $210.

• The Hermreck Team won a majority of the skins with a 5 on No. 2, a 3 on No. 8, 4’s on 10 and 12, a 3 on 14, a 4 on 16 and a 3 on 17. The McDaniel Team won No. 4 with a 3. Each skin won $7.50.

Special Events; each won $50:

• No. 3 Closest to the Pin was won by Brandon Tadtman, who got to within 3 feet, 10 inches.

• No. 7 Closest to the Pin went to Chase Halsey with his hole-in-one.

• No. 11 Closest to the Pin was won by Conner Antonetti, who came within 6 feet.

• No. 15 Closest to the Pin was Jon Allen at 58 1/2 feet.
