PITTSBURG — Uniontown’s softball team was one of the victims of a Cinderella Pittsburg Colgan squad in the semifinals of the Class 2-1A Regional Tournament at Pittsburg State University Tuesday.

Colgan lost its first 19 games of the season before beating Southeast, 4-3, in its regular-season finale. The No. 6 seed in the six-team tournament, the Panthers went on to beat third-seeded Chetopa in Monday’s first round, 13-0 in 5 innings, Uniontown by a 15-4 score in Tuesday’s semifinal and top seed Oswego, 11-3, in the championship game. After beating their Regional opponents by a combined score of 39-7, they advance to State at Pratt May 25-26 with a 4-19 record.

Uniontown (12-9) was the No. 2 seed and drew a first-round bye. But the Eagles only scored a single run in the second inning while Colgan scored in each of the first four innings on its way to a 13-1 lead.

Madison Wilkinson doubled home Jacquie Hampton with a 2-out double in the bottom of the second for the Eagles. Holly Shinn hit a 2-out, 2-run homer in the fifth with Wilkinson on base. Daryan Young, the next batter, tripled to center and stole home for Uniontown’s final run.
