O’Neal earns trip to Garden City
OLATHE — Uniontown junior Dylan O’Neal will be going to the Class 2A State Golf Tournament after qualifying from the Kansas City Christian Class 2A Regional Tournament at Prairie Highlands here Monday.
O’Neal shot 127 for the Eagles, finishing 16th, but advances to State as one of the top five qualifiers from teams that did not finish in the top three. The top three teams automatically qualified all of their players. O’Neal’s score was the fourth-best out of the five at-large qualifiers.
Ty Covey shot 138 for the Eagles to finish tied for 19th. Haydon Schaaf was set to participate but had to withdraw before play started. One other withdrawal left only 25 players in the field, of which only three were not guaranteed a trip to State.
Kansas City Christian won the team title by 3 strokes over Colgan, 341 to 344. Lyndon was the third qualifying team, shooting 550 with its best individual score a 103. Each of the top 9 medalists came from either K.C. Christian or Colgan and the 11th- and 12th-place scores also were shot by Colgan golfers.
Parker Allen of K.C. Christian won the individual title with an 80 followed by Colgan’s Cal Marquardt at 82 after winning a playoff over KCC’s Nate Streeter.
O’Neal will play at State on Monday at Garden City’s Southwind Country Club.
