Harper claims TRL javelin title

MOUND CITY — Shalina Harper won the girls’ javelin at the Three Rivers League Relays here Friday while Uniontown athletes took home a total of 11 medals.

“Great day for our league track meet,” Uniontown head coach Jackie Hall said. “Several of our athletes finished the season with personal bests in their respective events.”

Harper’s winning throw was 105 feet, 7 inches. Laurel Godderz of Crest was a distant second at 97’ 2”. Harper also finished second in the 800-meter run in 2:36.20 and in the 1,600 in 5:38.85.

Nikki Bolinger won two medals for the Eagles. She finished fourth in the 3,200 in 15:21.78 and sixth in the 1,600 in 6:48.42. Harlee Tinsley was sixth in javelin at 77’ 1”.

Ben George was third in boys’ high jump, clearing 5’ 8”. He was also fourth in triple jump at 36’ 9 1/2” and sixth in the 400 meters in 55.34.

Jon Harp took third in the 800 in 2:15.15 and sixth in the 1,600 in 5:21.07.

Marmaton Valley won the girls’ team title with 115 points with Crest 40 points behind in second with 65. Uniontown was eighth with 32 points.

Yates Center claimed the boys’ title with 138 points followed by Jayhawk-Linn with 115. Uniontown finished with 18 points for eighth place.

The Eagles will compete in the Jefferson County North Class 2A Regional Meet at Winchester. According to Hall, only Harper and George will be at the meet.

Officials at Jefferson County North have moved the Regional to Thursday in an effort to beat predicted thunderstorms forecast for the eastern part of the state. Field events will begin at 1 p.m. with preliminary events in track set for 3 p.m. and track finals 30 minutes after the conclusion of the prelims.
