Nevada broke Fort Scott High’s five-game winning streak with a 5-3 win at Dave Regan Stadium Tuesday night.

It was the Tigers’ fifth game in five days, having won the previous four in home doubleheaders against Coffeyville on Friday and Labette County Monday. Fort Scott (9-8) had scored at least 10 runs in each game of its winning streak.

Nevada used 4 walks to help it score twice in the top of the first inning. Peyton Denney and Myles McNeley drew consecutive bases-loaded walks to force in the runs.

Nevada added two more in the top of the second. Braedon Hinton drove in Logan Armstrong with a single and Branden Harder also scored with the aid of an error.

Three Nevada errors helped Fort Scott score all of its runs in the bottom of the second. Jeron Poyner reached base on a leadoff error at second base. Cooper Bradbury followed with a single to short left. Marcus Jamison reached base on another error that allowed pinch-runner Gunnar Brown and Bradbury to score. Jamison scored on Ty Gorman’s groundout.

Nevada added an insurance run in the top of the sixth when Hinton doubled in Armstrong.

The Tigers managed to get two runners on with one out in the bottom of the sixth but Nevada pitcher Tyler Ketterman got out of the jam with a pair of fly-ball outs.

In the seventh, Keiran Houlihan singled with one out, Grant Goldston was hit by a pitch and Matt Campbell drew a walk to load the bases. At that point, Nevada head coach Danny Penn decided to move Harder to the mound. That move paid off as Harder got a strikeout and a fly-ball out to end the game.

Nevada starter Payton Bright was the winning pitcher, allowing one earned run on 5 hits in four innings. He didn’t walk anyone and struck out 5.

Fort Scott pitcher Jarrett Lyon gutted it out despite not having his best stuff. After his shaky first two innings, he pitched three innings of one-hit ball before he was taken out after five when his pitch count reached 96. He allowed 3 earned runs on 4 hits and 6 walks but struck out 7.

Michaud and Houlihan had 2 hits each for the Tigers. Hinton had 2 hits for Nevada.

Monday: Fort Scott 14-15, Labette County 1-2.

The Tigers used big innings in each game to keep Labette County (0-6 SEK, 4-9 overall) winless in Southeast Kansas League play.

Fort Scott (7-3 SEK) had an 8-run fourth inning in game one and a 6-run fifth in game two. In each case, the 10-run rule stopped the game early.

The Tigers batted as the visiting team as these games were originally scheduled to be played at Altamont.

Alec Michaud was 3 for 4 at the plate for the Tigers. Kieran Houlihan, Grant Goldston, Matt Campbell and Brody Bowles each had 2 hits. Michaud and Bowles each drove in 3 runs while Goldston and Campbell has 2 RBI each.

Goldston (3-0) allowed no earned runs on 2 hits and a walk while striking out 5.

Cooper Bradbury was 4 for 4 with 2 RBI in game two. Connor Masters was 3 for 3 while Michaud, Houlihan, Campbell and Marcus Jamison each had 2. Jamison had 4 RBI while Goldston and Tyler Gorman also drove in 2 each.

Colby Page (1-2) allowed no earned runs on 3 hits and a walk with 8 strikeouts.

The Tigers have a week off before going to Girard for a single non-league game at 4:30 p.m. Monday.

NOTES — This was Fort Scott’s final home game of the season and the team’s seniors were honored. Members of the FSHS softball team were also honored as they had their scheduled home finale moved to Paola due to muddy conditions at Don Hewett Field on April 27. The softball team (8-6) plays a make-up league doubleheader at Labette County Friday at 4:30 and a non-league twinbill at Girard on Monday....
