at Parsons

PARSONS — Fort Scott High’s golf team finished second here Thursday in the third of four Southeast Kansas League designated tournaments.

The Tigers shot 354 as a team to finish second to Chanute’s 328. The Blue Comets have been dominant in league play, winning the three tournaments held by an average of 28 strokes.

Individually, Nick King was one of the Tigers’ two medalists as he finished in fifth place. He shot 42 on the front nine and duplicated that on the back for a total of 84. Parsons’ Drew Fuentez was the winner at 34-38—72 followed by Chanute’s Clete Carlson at 39-37—76 and Chanute’s Austin Liudahl at 42-35—77. Chanute’s Cole Wheeler was fourth with his 40-43—83.

Fuentez took over the lead in the SEK individual race with his win with a three-tourney total of 230. Liudhal, the leader coming in, is now second at 233 followed by Carlson at 240, Wheeler at 244 and King at 248.

The Blue Comets have shot 992 as a team this season. Pittsburg and Fort Scott are tied for second at 1089 while Independence is third at 1094 and Coffeyville is fifth at 1098. Labette County is sixth at 1127 while Parsons is ineligible for the team title as it has been unable to field a full team.

Tanner Fox shot 46-42—88 for the Tigers and was awarded 10th place when he won a scorecard playoff against Independence’s Drew Pasternak (43-45) and Pittsburg’s Steve Maceli (48-40).

Brett Pickert and Hudson Horn each shot identical scores of 46-45—91 to tie for 16th. Lucas Harryman shot 47-53—100, which put him 29th. The Tigers did not have a sixth golfer.

In league play, Fox stands 14th with a score of 277. Horn is 20th with 283, Pickert is 23rd at 290 and Harryman is 24th at 292.

The top 10 finishers in league play will earn First Team All-SEK honors while the 11th-through-20th-place finishers (tied included) receive Honorable Mention. The final league tournament is scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday in Oswego with Labette County has the host.
