No. 3 Johnson rolls past FSCC women

Visiting Johnson County, ranked No. 3 in NJCAA Division II, held a 23-9 lead after one period of play at Arnold Arena Saturday afternoon and went on to a 92-46 victory over Fort Scott Community College's women in a Jayhawk Conference-Division II/Region VI contest.

Greyhound women fell to 0-6 in the conference, 2-6 in the region and 14-7 overall. They've lost 7 of their last 10 games after starting the season a program-best 11-0.

The Cavaliers (5-1, 7-1, 24-2), winners of seven in a row, shot 54 percent from the floor, making 32 of 59 field-goal attempts and outrebounded the 'Hounds 52-24. Johnson County connected on 13 of 28 3-point attempts.

Fort Scott shot just 29 percent from the floor, making 15 of 52 field-goal tries. The Greyhounds were led by Rachel Newquist's 12 points. Yazmin Batch followed with 10.

Tantashea Tiger led Johnson County with 17 points followed by Arielle Jackson with 16, Kylee Williams with 12 and Kyessence Collins with 11.

Johnson County leads No. 14 Labette by a half game in the conference and is tied with the Cardinals (4-1, 7-1, 22-4) in the region. The teams meet tonight at Overland Park with the Cavs looking to avenge a 79-74 loss in Parsons on Jan. 21.

Fort Scott plays at Hesston tonight. The Greyhounds are looking for a season sweep in the series.
