Mary Margaret "Margie" Murphy Albright
Mary Margaret "Margie" Murphy Albright, age 80, a resident of rural Fort Scott, Kan., passed away Monday, Jan. 23, 2017, at her home surrounded by loved ones. She was born Jan. 1, 1937, in Fort Scott, the daughter of Timothy S. Murphy and Lillian B. Richards Murphy. She was a lifelong resident of Bourbon County. Marge was one of the fortunate people whose hobbies and passions were also her income. Her entire life up to her passing was spent doing what she loved. She loved to break, train and ride horses and mules. Through her younger years, she spent all of her time outside learning how to farm and handle horses. Marge had her own team of mules she used in farming and pulling competitions. She also had horses that were used to herd cattle and to participate in racing competitions. She also helped milk cows. For her adult life, she raised cattle for income and was successful at it. She also spent summers in the hayfield. She loved being outdoors on the farm. In earlier years, she was active with the Goodluck 4-H Club both as a member and later as a project leader. She remained active with 4-H and the Bourbon County fair the reminder of her life. In addition to farming, Marge worked at the Thursday Sale Barn and at the Bourbon County Tag office for several years. She also served as caregiver to her husband, Clyde Albright until his passing in 2004.
Survivors include a sister, Maxine Douglas, of Cave Creek, Ariz.; a brother, Pat Murphy and wife, Janet, of Fort Scott, Kan., and a sister-in-law, Fredoline Murphy, of Lincoln, Neb. Also surviving are 10 nieces and nephews and numerous great and great-great-nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Clyde, she was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Charles Murphy, a brother-in-law, Kenneth L. Douglas, a great-nephew, Drew Clayton, and a dear friend, Jimmie Higginbotham.
Father Robert Wachter will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28 at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the Clarksburg Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the St. Mary's School and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S.
