Lena Louise Brillhart

Lena Louise Brillhart, age 101, former resident of Fort Scott, Kan., more recently of Houston, Texas, died Tuesday, Dec. 06, 2016, at Seven Acres Jewish Senior Care in Houston. She was born July 31, 1915, in Pawnee Station, Kan., the daughter of Alex and Pauline Greenwaldt Bailey. She married Kyle D. Brillhart on April 9, 1939, in Pawnee Station. Lena worked for Western Insurance Company in Fort Scott for 24 years. Following her retirement, she volunteered at Mercy Hospital for many years....She was a member and president of the First Baptist Church Triple M Sunday School class and helped in the primary Sunday School class. She was past matron of Ideal Chapter Order of Eastern Star, mother advisor of Rainbow for girls, and president of the Northwest Scott E.H.U.
Survivors include a son, Dr. Larry Brillhart and wife Marian, Sugarland, Texas; two daughters, Karen Mahjoob, Houston, Texas, and Kay Hopkins and husband Leo, Lake Jackson, Texas; four grandchildren, Chris Brillhart, Tim Hopkins, Todd Hopkins, and Marlena Hopkins Dayton; four great-grandchildren, Ian Brillhart, Nicholas Dayton, Justin Dayton, and Shelby Dayton Shapley; three great-great-grandchildren, Mallory Dayton, Emmitt Shapley, and Baylyn Shapley; and a sister, Georgia Lee Thomas. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Lloyd, Wesley and Earl Bailey; and a sister, Mildred Puckett.
Rev. Dr. Jared Witt will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time at the Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, P.O.
