Eagles finish fourth in home tourney
UNIONTOWN -- Uniontown's volleyball team finished third in its home tournament here Saturday. Olathe Metro Academy was the champion, beating Northeast in the final in two sets.
Eagles head coach Jackie Hall moved some players around in her lineup and it paid off as her team went 3-1 in pool play before falling to Richmond-Central Heights in the third-place match.
First, the Eagles (23-7) defeated Southern Coffey County, 21-25, 25-23, 27-25. Keely Goodridge had 14 kills and Holly Shinn finished with 12. Goodridge, now a part-time setter, handed out 18 assists while Maddie Ard, another new setter, dished out 12.
Next, Uniontown swept Crest, 25-6, 25-10. The Eagles scored 19 straight points in the first set. Goodridge had 8 assists and Ard had 6.
Northeast defeated Uniontown, 20-25, 25-20, 25-21. Shinn had 11 kills. Goodridge finished with 7 kills and 12 assists. Ard dealt 10 assists.
In the final match of pool play, the Eagles swept Yates Center, 25-13, 25-23. Shinn led with 9 kills. Goodridge had 8 kills and 9 assists. Ard had 8 assists.
In the third-place match, Central Heights won 17-25, 25-23, 25-20. Shinn had 16 kills and Goodridge had 12 along with 16 assists. Ard had 15 assists.
Uniontown will play at the Osawatomie Tournament on Saturday.
