Greyhounds split at NE tourney

NORFOLK, Neb. -- No. 14 Fort Scott Community College's volleyball team split its matches at an invitational here over the weekend, dropping two matches against other schools ranked in NJCAA Division II on Friday.

No. 8 Kirkwood downed the Greyhounds in four sets on Friday, 25-15, 25-19, 17-25, 25-22. Brette Moore had 17 kills in the match for Fort Scott and Megan Turner had 11. Mickey Trimble handed out 42 assists. Katie Gorman came up with 24 digs while Turner had 14. Brianna Bogan had 5 total blocks, 4 assisted and 1 solo.

No. 9 Central-Columbus (Neb.) swept the Greyhounds, 25-17, 25-16, 27-25. Moore had 12 kills in this match while Turner had 9. Trimble recorded 28 assists. Gorman picked up 31 digs and Turner had 12.

Saturday, Fort Scott defeated host Northeast in four sets, 25-21, 23-25, 25-22, 25-22. Turner led in kills this time with 14 while Moore had 11. Trimble dealt out 45 assists. Gorman and Turner each had 21 digs, Heather Huseman had 17 and Trimble had 13.

In the final match, the 'Hounds beat Iowa Lakes in four, 25-10, 26-28, 25-17, 25-19. Turner had 21 kills, Michaela Pfaff had 13 and Moore was credited with 11. Trimble gave out 51 assists. Huseman had 17 digs, Turner and Gorman 15 each and Trimble 10.

The Greyhounds (7-2) go back into conference play tonight with a match at Labette (6-6) at 6:30 p.m. in Parsons.
