Brooks wins LCHS Invitational

ALTAMONT -- Fort Scott High's Devin Brooks won the varsity boys' race at the season-opening Labette County Invitational Cross-Country meet here Thursday, Sept. 1.

Brooks finished the course in 17 minutes, 31 seconds, a half-minute ahead of the runner-up. Gavin Smith was 7th in 18:37.

Nick Shelton finished with a time of 20:50 for Fort Scott followed by Noah Daly in 21:39.

Paxsten Eads finished fourth for Fort Scott in the girls' varsity race with a time of 22:06. Callie Logue of Girard, two-time defending Class 4A State champion, was the winner in 18:59.

Mallory Westhoff finished 13th for the Tigers in 22:57 followed by Kelsey Carpenter 14th in 23:15. Emma Davis turned in a time of 24:17, Lexi Bryant 24:45, Skyelar Brown 24:52 and Berkley Chavis 25:01.

Gracie Krokroskia placed seventh in the girls' JV run in 28:03 with Zoe Self eighth in 28:25. Alyx Brooks finished in 29:13 followed by Mackenzie Ragan in 29:14 and Melonie Harper in 33:03.

Raymond Harper was fifth in the boys' JV race with a time of 21:59. Luke Martin finished in 28:27.

Team scores were not available.

The Tigers host their annual invitational Thursday at 4:30.
