Lavon Lucas Loar
Lavon Lucas Loar, age 92, a former resident of Fort Scott, Kan., and more recently of Overland Park, Kan., died Friday, Aug. 26, 2016, at the Morningside Place Memory Care Center in Overland Park. She was born Jan. 6, 1924, in Hockerville, Okla., the daughter of Wales Aldridge and Ellen Harrison Aldridge. She first married Joseph A. Lucas in the fall of 1940, at Nevada, Iowa. He was killed in action while flying a mission over Germany on Aug. 5, 1944. Lavon later married Eldon C. Loar on Feb. 1, 1947, at Mapleton, Kan. He preceded her in death on May 22, 2003. Lavon had worked as a machine operator for Key Work Clothes for 34 years. She enjoyed sewing and reading. She was a member of the Community of Christ Church.
Survivors include two sons, Ron Lucas and wife, Sandi, of Overland Park, Kan., and Dick Lucas and wife, Linda, of Burleson, Texas; six grandchildren, Kristine Logan and husband, Al, of Lansing, Kan., Robin Moore, of Lawrence, Kan., Rick Lucas and wife, Linda, of Waxahachie, Texas, Debi Lucas, of Dallas, Texas, Becki Abrisz and husband, Brian, of Chesterfield, V.A., and Rachel Price and husband, Eli, of Fort Worth, Texas, as well as three step-grandchildren: Rachel Barnette of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Tony Evans of Newburg, Ind., and Robin Evans of Danville, Ill., and 15 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 9 at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the U.S. National Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday Sept. 9 from 10:30 a.m. until service time at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Community of Christ Church or the Alzheimer Association and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, P.O. Box 347, Fort Scott, KS 66701.
