Board accepts bid for new security features for its buildings
The Uniontown School Board took a big step toward increased security during its monthly meeting held Monday evening.
West Bourbon Elementary School Principal Tyler Jackman presented three bids to the board for safety and communication equipment to be installed in the district. This equipment will include security cameras, security doors with keycard entry, and a new intercom system.
A bid from Craw-Kan of Girard was presented, but they were only interested in installing equipment at the junior high school, due to exceeded system limitations, and power not already being supplied to the doors. This bid was for $39,437.09, which didn't include power run to the doors, which the district would have to pay for separately.
The next bid was from CDL in Pittsburg for $68,114.80, but was not turnkey, and did not include Pre-K doors. Board Member Lynne Oharah said he thought it would be easier dealing with just one company.
"It will be a lot easier to deal with an integrated system, rather than two or three different systems," Oharah said.
The final bid came from ADS out of Liberty, Mo. The bid of $67,484.34 was approved by the board, and is a totally integrated system of cameras, keycard doors, and intercom system.

A new president and vice-president were elected to the board, with Jason Sutterby as the new president, and Matthew Simpson getting the nod for vice-president.
The board also approved the following appointments for the 2016-2017 school year:
* Clerk of the board: Sherri Hartman
