Indians have tough weekend in showcase

The Kansas Indians, Fort Scott's summer baseball team, struggled at the latest Fort Scott Community College showcase over the weekend, winning only one of five games.

The Indians lost to the Dallas Blue Jays, 6-1, on Thursday and their first game on Friday to the Blaze, 4-2. Their only win came in Friday's second game, a 10-0 run-rule over Kansas City Sluggers-Randa.

The Indians lost both games Saturday, to Paola 7-2 and Stockton, Mo., 3-2, and stand at 12-15 on the season.

Thursday: Dallas 6, Indians 1.

The only run for the Indians came in the first inning when Carter Young drove in Grant Goldston with a single. Goldston had walked with one out and moved to third on an error on Chase Brown's grounder.

Young one of six Indians with a hit. The others were Chase Brown, Gunnar Brown, Goldston, Chandler Defebaugh, and Marcus Jamison.

Friday: Blaze 4, Indians 2.

The Indians led 2-0 after 2 1/2 innings but the Blaze scored all 4 of their runs in the bottom of the third.

Defebaugh drove in Taylor Engstrom with a single in the top of the second. C.Brown drove in Goldston with a single in the third.

Goldston and C.Brown were each 2 for 3 for the Indians, who had 7 hits in total.

Friday: Indians 10, Sluggers-Randa 0.

The Indians took a 2-0 lead after two innings. Young led off the top of the second with a single, then Engstrom drew a walk. Jeron Poyner bunted the runners over. Jarret Lyon grounded into a fielder's choice. Young was out at home but the bases remained loaded for Defebuagh, who was safe on an error. Engstrom scored on that play. De'Vonte Robinson reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Poyner to score.

The Indians added 3 in the top of the fifth. Poyner's double drove in G.Brown and Engstrom. Poyner leader scored on a error.

The final 5 runs posted in the top of the sixth. The run rule stopped the game after the Sluggers' half of the inning.

Poyner was 3 for 3 with 3 runs batted in. Lyon went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI. Engstrom and Goldstron were each 2 for 3.

Robinson allowed only 2 hits in going the distance on the mound. He walked 5 and struck out 6.

Saturday: Paola 7, Indians 2.

The Indians took the initial lead with a run in the top of the fourth inning. Jamison led off the inning by drawing a walk. Goldston singled and a groundout moved the runners up. Young's single scored Jamison.

Paola scored 5 in the bottom of the fourth and once in the sixth. Fort Scott's other run came in the top of the sixth when C.Brown's single scored Ty Gorman, who had singled with one out and moved to second on an error.

Goldston was 2 for 2 for the Indians, who had 6 hits.
