Reynolds wins first medal of season
PARSONS -- Nick Reynolds won the Tigers' first medal of the season as Fort Scott High School's boys golf team finished sixth at the Parsons Invitational here Thursday.
Reynolds shot 41 on the front nine and 46 on the back to finish with an 87, good for first place. He bested his previous season low by 14 strokes.
"Nick especially performed at a much higher level," Fort Scott head coach Ken Klassen said. "I'm proud of his medal-earning play."
Tanner Fox missed the tournament due to the flu and Klassen made a couple of adjustments to his lineup.
Fort Scott's four-man score of 391 saw contributions from Reynolds, Canden Stiles, who shot 50-49--99, Brett Pickert with his 52-50--102, and Hudson Horn at 53-50--103. Derek Bollinger shot 57-59--116 in his return to the varsity lineup. Connor Miller shot 58-68--126 in his first varsity assignment.
Several changes have been made to the Tigers' varsity schedule. First, Fort Scott will not participate in the Columbus Invitational today as originally scheduled. Next, the Tigers' home varsity tournament will be made up on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Woodland Hills Golf Course. Then, the Tigers will play at Jayhawk-Linn on Thursday at 3 p.m. Finally, a tournament at Prairie View that was set for May 12 has been taken off the schedule.
The home tournament was originally scheduled to be made up Monday but as one of the Southeast Kansas League's designated tournaments, mandatory attendance by other schools would have forced several of them to drop Iola's tournament, scheduled the same day. FSHS head coach Dr. Klassen did not feel that would be fair to Iola.
Wednesday was chosen because at least one of Chanute's golfers would have had a conflict with other school activities had today been the make-up day.
