The wind was blowing out of the park most of the day at the Betty Ruth Willard Complex. But it was visiting Allen's bats that were able to take greatest advantage as the Red Devils swept Fort Scott Community College's softball team 15-7 and 10-2 Tuesday.
The Red Devils hit four home runs in the first game of the Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division twinbill, including two by first baseman Ashley Womack. Allen (6-7 East, 24-15 overall) didn't need a home run in the second game but was able to end the game after six innings on the eight-run rule.
Fort Scott (3-11, 16-21) finished a six-game homestand without a win and will need to take a pair of doubleheaders on the road Friday at Brown Mackie and Saturday at Cloud County as it looks to finish in the best possible position for post-season tournament seeding.
The 'Hounds led after three innings of the opener, 5-3. They took the lead with 3 runs in the bottom of the third, two of which scored on Kristen Tyler's homer over the left-field fence.
Taylor Brecheisen had 3 hits and drove in 3 runs for the Greyhounds. Cheyenne Brewer was 3 for 3 while Tyler, Alex Perez and Aubrey Smith each had 2 hits.
Womack went 4 for 5 for Allen and drove in 7 runs. Her homer in the first inning scored 2 runs and the one she had in the seventh plated 3.
Tyler scored both Fort Scott runs in game two, driven in by Allison Davis both times. Davis was the only 'Hound with 2 hits in the nightcap.
Womack was 3 for 4 for Allen and drove in 3 more runs.
