UHS golfers open season at Erie
ERIE -- Uniontown's golf team opened its season here Monday, finishing ninth in an 11-team field.
"This was our first meet of the season, so we didn't really know how the kids would do but knew it would give us a good place to start and try to build from," Eagle head coach Jason Tourtillott said. "We hit some really nice golf shots but just couldn't put them together shot after shot. We found a lot of things we need to work on in practice to try to cut some strokes down."
The Eagles shot 469 as a team over 18 holes. Eureka was the team champion with a 352.
Uniontown's best score was posted by Dalton Clifton, who shot 53 on the front nine and 54 on the back for a total of 107. Ty Covey followed with a score of 53-57--110. Dylan O'Neal came next with his 59-58--117. Hayden Schaaf rounded out the results with a 71-64--135.
The individual winner was Caney Valley's Troy Watson, who shot 39-40--79.
Uniontown will send its junior varsity to Erie on Monday and to Jayhawk-Linn April 14. The next scheduled varsity tournament is April 18 at Oswego.
