Three receive All-SEK basketball honors
Three members of Fort Scott High School's basketball teams received All-Southeast Kansas League honors in voting conducted recently. By league protocol, the teams were not released until the league's final post-season competitor -- Labette County's girls, who finished fourth in Class 4A-Division I -- completed its season.
The only Fort Scott boy selected was senior Kaleb DeLaTorre, who became the school's all-time leading 3-point goal maker among boys during the season. He was one of three unanimous picks along with Pittsburg senior Dylan Untereker and Independence senior Jalynn Lawrie.
All five members of the All-SEK First Team were seniors. Named along with the three unanimous selections were Chanute's Trey Lind and Aaron Haviland.
The Second Team consists of seniors Seth Graham and Jawaun Thompson from Coffeyville, Klein Ryan of Labette County and Jacob Almond of Parsons and sophomore Marque English of Pittsburg.
Pittsburg seniors Aaron Scroggins and Sherrick Rogers and junior Elijah Harris, Coffeyville junior Kamaren Wilson and Independence senior Caleb Johnson were the Honorable Mention selections.
Fort Scott senior Ashley Cook, who became the school's all-time leading scorer for either genders as well as it's all-time 3-point leader this season, was picked as a member of the girl's First Team. Chanute senior Anna Bagshaw, Pittsburg junior Taylor Muff, and Labette County sophomore Tristan Gegg were unanimous picks. LCHS senior Erica Gartner rounds out the First Team. Gegg crossed the 1,000-point barrier for LCHS in just her second season during the State Tournament.
Second Team members, all seniors, are Shay Kelly of Parsons, Andre'a Newton of Coffeyville, Madi Rollins of Chanute, Ashlee Beitzinger of Pittsburg and Kara McGrath of Independence.
Fort Scott sophomore Madison Cook was one of four players picked as an Honorable Mention selection. The others were LCHS senior Clancie Sorrell, Chanute senior Jordan Schoenberger, and Independence junior Kallie Smith.
