FSCC softball opens with sweep

Fort Scott Community College's softball team opened the season Wednesday with a sweep of the Ottawa University junior varsity at the Betty Ruth Willard Complex.

The Greyhounds won game one 8-0 and took the second game 8-6.

Fort Scott had 16 hits in the opener. Kaylan Morgan and McKenzie Hersh each had 3 while Allison Davis, Taylor Brecheisen and Chelsea Snyder each had 2. Snyder drove in 3 runs while Brecheisen and Davis each had 2 RBI.

Kaylee Bart allowed 3 hits and 4 walks while striking out 6 in going the distance.

Fort Scott held off Ottawa in the second game as the Braves scored twice in the top of the seventh inning. This time, the Greyhound offense had 14 hits with Aubrey Smith getting three while driving in 2 runs. Brecheisen had a double and a home run as her 2 hits. Hersh and K.C. Beardsely also had 2 hits each.

Smith was the winning pitcher, allowing 3 earned runs on 7 hits.

The 'Hounds next play on the weekend of February 19-20 in the Cowtown Classic at Fort Worth, Texas. They will not play at home again until March 4 when they host Cottey in a non-conference doubleheader.
