CHANUTE --Fort Scott High's freshmen girls came close but couldn't quite keep the lead once the Tigers had it and wound up falling to Chanute 30-26 Tuesday.

"We showed improvement," said Coach Kori Dodson. "That team has got some good players that are tough to guard. They can shoot the 3 and take you to the basket."

The scores at each break reflected the back-and-forth nature of the game. Chanute led 9-5 at the first break, Fort Scott was up 16-15 at the half, and the Tigers held the lead at 19-17 with one period to go.

Maddie Farmer collected 9 points, with Abby Humble grabbing 6 rebounds and Alaina Allen coming up with 4 steals.
