Wilbur "Glenn" Kunkel, Jr.

Wilbur "Glenn" Kunkel, Jr., 75, of Olathe, Kan., formerly of Moran and Chanute, Kan., passed away Feb. 4, 2016 at his home. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016 at Lenexa United Methodist Church, 9138 Caenen Lake Road, Lenexa, KS 66215. Visitation 1 p.m. before the service. Glenn was born Aug. 24, 1940 in Winfield, Kan., to Wilbur Glenn "Mike" and Virginia Christine (Englund) Kunkel. He graduated from Douglass High School and attended Southwestern College in Winfield. He received his Master funeral directors and embalmers license in 1964 from the San Francisco College of Mortuary Science. Glenn married Marion Sue Hewitt in Independence, Mo., on June 25, 1967. They bought Kunkel Funeral Chapel in Moran in 1974 and the funeral home in Humboldt in 1984, his kindness and compassion made him an excellent funeral director. Upon retirement they moved to Olathe to be near family in 2005.

Glenn served as the Kansas Funeral Directors Association president from 1997 to 1998. He was a past member of the Allen County Hospital Board of Trustees and Hospital Ethics Committee, Moran United Methodist Church where he was on the pastor/parish committee and choir, Moran Ruritan Club, Marmaton Lodge No. 245 AM&FM, Moran Order of the Eastern Star, Mirza Shrine Temple and MG Shrine unit of Pittsburg, Scottish Rites Bodies of Fort Scott and York Bodies at Iola and British Car Club. Glenn was a member of Lenexa United Methodist Church and was in the choir. Glenn was also a member of the Southeast Shavers Barbershop Chorus and then joined the Trails West Barbershop Chorus of Olathe in 2005. One of Glenn's passions was his 1957 MGA. He loved making jokes, performing and truly enjoyed being close to his grandchildren, attending their concerts and games. He will be dearly missed by family and friends.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents. Glenn is survived by his wife, Marion; son, Mike Kunkel, and daughter, Susan Dunaway and husband John, all of Overland Park, Kan., and five grandchildren, Tyler, Kayt, Foster, Eli and Liam.
